Wrapping up 2025

December 31, 2025 - Reading time: 10 minutes

2025 has been an intense year. I'm kind of happy it's coming to an end, and not only because it will reset the annual Lord of The Rings trilogy watching count. The library card will be free and we may have our first try for the baby project 😊

So, what about last year ambitions? Did I make it? Let's have a look at my 365 days old bullet points.

  • home server: autosave on dedicated USB key

Kind of. Backups are now saved on a dedicated USB key but I wasn't able to make it automatic with a copy sent to a different server, mostly because... I don't have somewhere to drop it haha. Anyway, it was the occasion of raising a minor issue for the Restic Yunohost app.

  • Qwixx project: get closer on releasing v2

I did work on the Qwixx project this year, see the dedicated post. It's not V2 yet but preparation work well underway. I don't know how I'll find this project after a long break, it may be hard to reconnect!

  • learn Vue.js and write an article about it

Mmm I read a few lessons from W3Schools and started a blog post but I didn't come very far. Maybe next year will be the right one?

  • clean up another old laptop

I'm not sure which one I was referring to haha. But I did some reasarch to improve the main (and old) one I'm still using from time to time. I will soon become more urgent because some parts of the hardrive are failing and it's the only computer that can read DVDs.

  • keep track of what I watch and read by writing a few words on SensCritique

Yes, I did it! See my book list for 2025 for instance. I'm happy I managed to do that. I read more than the previous year, probably because I'm part of the office book club!

So that's it for the goal list. What about the rest?

Computers & co

  • Websites
    • launched libertepourolivier.fr with Bludit. FontAwesome free usage was reached in 2 days! I adapted plugins, theme and teached users how to use it. It was quite stressful to be the webmaster of this website, because of its audience and of course what was at stake. I felt a lot of responsability and took extra care of SEO and basic security measures.
    • taking care of my friend profesionnal website, also on Bludit
    • refreshed editionsdusamedi.fr, migrating from PluXML to Eleventy. I wrote a blog post about this! I also worked on and released some other updates after launch. I did some research for our migration from Dropbox to Nextcloud as well.
    • merged my old web journey blog and my portfolio website. Here you are!
  • Server
    • I successfully migrated it to Bookworm!
    • I managed to solve some more issues when we changed our Internet provider
    • I mounted a key for the backups, which gives more space to the Nextcloud users (including me!)
  • Computers
    • Failed changing RAM of an old ASUS, the keyboard isn't recognized anymore. Will try again later
    • I switched my main computer from Windows 10 to Manjaro KDE. I was happy with Windows 10 but cannot make the switch to Windows 11 so I thought it was time to change the Operating System. It went all fine (I was already familiar with Manjaro) except it was difficult to install/use LAMP on a public repository. Eventually I'm using XAMPP lol.
  • Projects
    • Bludit: I built up and released one theme (based on Simple.css) and two plugins, Links anywhere and Basic security. For the latter other people added their translations. I started working on another theme based on Kelp UI
    • I worked a lot on the Qwixx for a short period of time, in May and September
    • I did some thinking for other projects I have in mind

Learning

  • I learned a lot about Eleventy / DecapCMS / Netlify for les éditions du samedi website. The world of Static Site Generators looks so amazing! I'd be happy to have another round of exploring it.
  • I followed some FreeCodeCamp courses (still haha I know but there's always new things and I'm happy to go into details), more or less regularly
  • I subscribed to Chris from Go Make Things newsletter and so far I enjoyed it very much! I like recieving some frontend and general open thoughts and advices almost every day from such a kind personality.

Publishing

  • It was the 10th anniversary of les éditions du samedi! Eventhough we don't have much books I'm very proud of what we achieved and the last year philosophy and organization. Another project should join our catalogue first half of 2026.
  • I did some first-reading (or so) for les éditions du samedi and a friend of mine who happens to have some success for her short stories! I'm very happy for her. She was selected for the 4th issue of Lufthanger Pulp magazine!

Work

  • There's a good atmosphere at work and I'm happy to go to the office and spend time with my colleagues. On the work side there was the european Accessibility Act that came into force, which occupied me quite a lot. I also started working on an internal big project that is really interesting. I also have the chance to be part of an interprofesional group that worked on updating an accessibility charter for producing accessible ebooks and on the Qualebook website content.
  • Despite all these good things I'm still looking for another position to get closer to home and more distant from the ideas promoted by my big big boss. I sent my resume and letter around but had almost no human answer (two job interviews though). I'm a bit discouraged but I keep looking.

Life

  • My friend held hostage in Iran since October 2022 was released from prison!! It was an amazing relief and I'm so so so happy I could hug him again. He's slowly recovering from his traumatic experience.
  • With my wife we spent a lot of time with friends and family, at home or elsewhere and that is priceless.
  • Our baby project is well underway. We went to appointements and renovated part of our appartement (which we eventually bought!), including create another bedroom and revisit the kitchen.
  • I dislocated my kneecap again so I spent some time muscling my legs to prevent it from happening again haha I love walking but this doesn't seem to be enough.
  • I finished Zelda Breath of the Wild and started reading again Robin Hobb Fitz adventures. Love(d) it!

2026 here we go!

Wow. OK, what are the plans for next year? Have a break ¤_¤? Anyway, I should keep to list short and vague to have a chance to fulfill it and because this post is already too long:

  • learning: continue FreeCodeCamp courses (get a certification?); get more familiar with Git and blog more! One post per month?
  • hardware: replace my old laptop hardrive with a SSD and why not some more RAM
  • projects
    • éditions du samedi: add some more features/improvments, get a Nextcloud set up (thanks to frama.space?)
    • Bludit: finish Kelp theme and continue participating to the project
    • Qwixx: I don't dare so say finish version 2 but who knows...
    • Have a first version of What I Eat not project
  • continue keeping track of my readings and watchings by writing a few words on SensCritique.

Let's hope it's not too much and that life in general will be kind enough to let me spend time with my passions, which include being out walking in the forest or discovering a museum.

Since it's a personal recap all this feels a bit selfish so if you read this far I thank you for your time (hope I did not waste it too much) and wish you a very happy moments with your loved ones and all the best for the year to come.
